Considering the difficult economic climate of 2010, maximizing tax returns this season is essential. On Saturday, February 26th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., United Way of Santa Barbara County, as a partner of the Santa Barbara County Financial Empowerment Partnership, is hosting the first Mega Tax Day and Resource Fair to help Santa Barbara County residents alleviate the financial stress of tax preparation and returns. Trained, experienced volunteers will provide free bilingual income tax return preparation and E-Filing for those with 2010 incomes under $49,000. In addition, the event offers a variety of resources, including financial literacy workshops, special offers on savings and checking accounts, prizes and support from a large group of local nonprofits and businesses.

Media is invited to attend Mega Tax Day and Resource Fair, with the best photo opportunity from 11 am – 12 pm. Mayor Helene Schneider will join the trained volunteer tax preparers, representatives from the Santa Barbara County Financial Empowerment Partnership collaborating organizations, and an estimated 300 community members having their tax returns prepared and filed between 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
