The Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce have produced,in collaboration with WIB, an ongoing series of events for kids, educating them about jobs and careers available in the community.

Additional goals for the events are:

1. Connect students to business.

2. Educate students about services available in community

3. Match students with potential summer jobs

4. Develop potential student mentors

Chamber staff has secured the use of the newly available, historic Hill Adobe. This venue is a wonderful site to hold what we envision as a combination, job fair, career services and reception. The final event is scheduled for June 21 from 4-7, the Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce will host B.E. C.O.O.L. (Business Education Collaboration Offering Opportunities for Leadership)

The first two events, held in April and May, were deemed successful, with over 150 students and 50 businesses represented. Chamber business members host “conversation stations” situated throughout the venue, allowing the students opportunity for dialogue with business people about career development, job opportunity and skills needed to accomplish career goals. Each student receives a Station Passport to facilitate navigation through the venue and to be used as a ticket toward a grand prize at the end of the evening.

The evening ends with dinner, encouraging the students and business people a time for casual networking.

This win/win event incorporates the goals the Chamber has chosen for this year, working with and empowering youth and linking them with the business community.
