The four Santa Barbara North County fires that began yesterday afternoon — all within a 20-minute period — were put out by day’s end. The two that continued to burn as of press time were declared 100 percent contained by the afternoon, said County Fire spokesperson Captain David Sadecki.

The Nojoqui Fire, which started at 12:30 p.m. and was located off of Highway 101 near the Nojoqui Summit, grew to seven acres before it was doused at 3:50 p.m. No structures were damaged. It was accidentally caused by beekeepers in the area.

The largest blaze by far, the Alisos Fire which began in the 9200 block of Alisos Canyon Road, started at 12:45 p.m. and grew to 120 acres. It was 100 percent contained by 4 p.m. with the help of 10 engines, two crews, two water tenders, two helicopters, two dozers, one air attack, two helicopters, and two air tankers. While a few buildings were initially threatened, none were damaged.

The Alisos Fire began when a large bird hit a power line in the area. The accident not only sparked that fire, but also caused the small Cat Canyon Fire when a power surge ignited nearby brush.
