Scooter Rider Killed by Semi

A 48-year-old Goleta woman, identified as Mary Beth Clementi, was killed yesterday in a traffic accident at the intersection of Cathedral Oaks Road and Ellwood Canyon Road.

Responding deputies arrived on the scene to find Clementi — who had been riding a scooter — trapped under the tires of the semi tractor-trailer involved in the collision. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, said Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars.
