Day at the Beach

Interesting that the letter titled “Honor the Fallen” and veteran Tom Scheff’s “War Weary” were together in the current edition. The Angry Poodle “Stand By Your Dog” column has sparked a good discussion, as good journalism should.

Arlington West, the demonstration of the cost of the wars that 9-11 was used to justify was not on the beach on Sunday as the beach had been reserved by a group intent upon the fallen from 9-11 and did not want to share it with those who have died in those wars, which number nearly three times as many Americans as died on 9-11. As far as the fallen from all nations, who is counting? Probably a thousand have died for every 9-11 death now, in a never-ending spiral of violence initiated by the Bush administration in response to the attack and continued by the Obama administration at the cost of about $4 trillion and almost 7,000 U.S. lives. When permitted to do so, Veterans For Peace will demonstrate the costs of these wars at Arlington West.

If Osama Bin Laden intended to bankrupt the U.S.A. and set us against one another, his attack has certainly succeeded!
