I watched the Goleta City Council last week, and while everyone agreed something needs to be done, a couple of members actually seemed to take into account the local citizens who will be affected. Specifically, Aceves (does not believe the need to permit, just post, argued it should be free); Bennett (believes there should be no charge for permits); Eastman (conceding that there are good people who will be negatively impacted); and Connell ( double the permitted allowable time).

I am sure everyone has an opinion on this, but making everyone get a permit is ridiculous. How will Officer Nordike (the only enforcement officer for all of Goleta, by the way) actually go and ticket the offender? Just between Los Carneros Road and Fairview Avenue there are probably 75 RVs or boats in those neighborhoods. There are not enough storage yards for even these vehicles.

I think better posting is a good idea, and actually getting enforcement for the worst offenders (homeless live-aboards, commercial enterprises, multiple car and boat sellers) but not for Joe plumber with his boat or RV or toy trailer or, heaven forbid, the grandparents or in-laws visiting in the RV for a week.

Let’s not create an entire bureaucracy to enforce this, let’s post the areas that need it, and get proactive in calling the law on the areas or vehicles that need it.
