Kidnapped Canine Returned

Last week a call went out across the wire that one of DAWG’s dogs had been stolen. A 4-month-old “Aussie blend” puppy named Chaka, to be exact. The little guy was taken from medical isolation where he was being treated for several maladies including kennel cough and demodectic mange. DAWG got the message out — from here to Anaheim — via the Wweb and flyers, and the efforts paid off.

Chaka was found wandering the streets in Ventura, said DAWG’s Cort Cedillo. According to Cedillo, whoever stole Chaka hopped the fence at DAWG and then picked the lock to gain entrance to the medical unit. Since all vet hospitals in an approximately 100-mile radius had been alerted, it would have been difficult for the dog-napper to get medication for Chaka without getting caught.

Nonetheless, Chaka was released from his captor to wander Ventura when, according to Cedillo, a couple walking their dog found the stray pup and called DAWG. Chaka is back at DAWG safe and sound and is quickly getting well now that he is back on medication.
