A lone person, dressed in all black, threw two improvised firebombs at the Isla Vista Foot Patrol station last night at around 7:45 p.m.

The devices — called Molotov cocktails, which are breakable bottles filled with a flammable substance and stopped with a rag that’s set ablaze — caused relatively minor damage to the outside of the building, an “Operation Medicine Cabinet” drop box, and an unoccupied Sheriff’s patrol car. No one was hurt.

The bottle that hit the patrol car didn’t cause any fire damage, but it did shatter the windshield. Stucco on the front of the building, located in the 6500 block of Trigo Road, was burned by the second bottle. A witness reported seeing the suspect toss the bottles then run south away from the scene.

The incident is under investigation, and Sheriff’s Department encourages anyone with information to call (805) 681-4100 or (805) 681-4171.
