The House of Representatives passed the Senate version of an appropriations bill that will fund the Department of Justice through 9/30, which means a program through which the Sheriff’s Department gets some money to help run its jail will also get funding. The State Criminal Alien Assistance Program — which helps offset the costs of housing criminal illegal immigrants — provided the Sheriff’s Department $576,500 last year. This year, the take will be considerably less, considering there will be a drop from $330 million to $240 million in total funding.
