Eight members of Santa Barbara’s Search and Rescue Team (SAR) will soon travel to the Mojave Desert area to help look for two men who went missing last weekend.

Chris Rice, 29, and Dan Carbonaro, 27 — both Santa Barbara residents — haven’t been seen since 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning when when they left a motel in Randsburg in an all-terrain vehicle en route to Cuddeback Dry Lake in San Bernardino County.

SAR received an official request for help from the law enforcement division of the state’s Emergency Management Agency. In addition to the eight bodies, SAR is dispatching two quad ATVs and two Polaris Razor vehicles, all designed for off-road travel.

“As a Type I search team,” said a spokesperson with the S.B. Sheriff’s office, “members of Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue often are requested for out-of-county mutual aid for extended searches to provide trained professional searchers anywhere in the state and in any conditions.”
