Kudos to Dan McCaslin on his steadfast refusal to purchase an Adventure Pass merely to go for a hike on a National Forest. Despite Forest Service denials and foot-dragging, the recent Ninth Circuit decision has vindicated McCaslin and many others, and does apply on the Los Padres and the other three Adventure Pass forests. The Notice of Required Fee that McCaslin has accumulated 35 of can, as he said, be safely ignored. The Forest Service calls these a “non-enforcement compliance tool” which is another way of saying they are just for intimidation purposes. If you receive one, I suggest you start your own collection.
