Natural running approaches proper running form like a skill that has specific techniques, that once mastered will lead to efficient running and reduced injuries. A poll conducted by Runner’s World in 2009 found that 66% of runners had suffered an injury in the previous year. With the number of runners and races held in Santa Barbara, its safe to say that many of those injuries are happening here in the Central Coast. The most common mistake made by runners is excessive heel striking, which causes too much impact and stress on the body and leads to a variety of potential injuries. Natural Running corrects this by encouraging runners to lean forward and land on the midfoot/forefoot area rather than the heel.

When most people take up running as a hobby, they don’t think twice about how to do it, they simply buy a pair of shoes and hit the road. Imagine learning how to swim by grabbing a bathing suit and jumping in the water without any instruction or idea about proper technique. CrossFit Pacific Coast’s natural running seminar will feature drills, Q & A session, and two video tapings and viewing (Before & After), so participants can see the change in their running style. College friends and water polo teammates, Traver Boehm and Eric Malzone, founded CrossFit Pacific Coast in June of 2009. They recently moved to a brand new facility with over 3000 square feet of workout space at 218 East Cota. CrossFit Pacific Coast currently has over 150 students, and employ a team of six CrossFit Certified coaches. In addition to traditional CrossFit classes, they offer private training, yoga classes, a CrossFit kid’s program, wellness seminars, and a combination yoga/crossfit class called “Heaven and Hell.”
