I love my Indy. It was one of the reasons I moved back to this town, a great free local paper that really let me feel part of this community, that covered the news and everything else that mattered to me in one well-produced paper. I looked forward to perusing all the interesting things that go on in this wonderful town every week.

So I was flabbergasted to see what you’ve done to the Events listings. You want me to go online to see a complete listing of all the events, dances, support groups, etc.? Ick. Don’t you realize that way too many of us are spending way too much time already on our computers? It’s not healthy and it’s inconvenient. There’s simply no replacement for the joy of being able to pick up a hard copy of the Indy to look through at my leisure.

They’re trying to gut our beloved Adult Ed classes. They’re ripping out old, beautiful trees to leave barren space. And now your messy, incomplete events calendar is just the latest in a series of “improvements” that really aren’t. What’s happening to the things that make Santa Barbara so special? You already cut the beautiful photos Leslie Holtzman took that captured the essence of our community – what next? Starshine Roshell’s witty columns? Rob Bresny’s Free Will Astrology? Movie listings?

Please, I beg of you, take out the new, silly graphics, large print, photos, and headlines – all that clumsy, cluttered fluff that wastes space – and please give us back our good old complete calendar of events, in print.
