The now-closed Entenmann’s-Oroweat Bakery Outlet in Goleta sits nearly empty

After decades in business, the Entenmann’s-Oroweat Bakery Outlet at 91 South Patterson Avenue abruptly closed on Tuesday, April 10.

An employee at the Goleta location said corporate came in and shuttered the branch, one of many under the umbrella of national parent company Bimbo Bakeries USA, citing the company’s desire to shift away from retail sales. Customers and employees were reportedly given little to no warning of the decision.

The outlets, sometimes with walk-in storefronts that offer discount prices, provide wholesale baked goods to area restaurants, grocery stores, and food banks. Other brands Bimbo distributes include Boboli, Sara Lee, and Ball Park buns.

Rosa Steiner of Santa Barbara wonders what will happen to her participation in the store's frequent customer reward program now that the Goleta location has closed.

The remaining Santa Barbara food stock is being shipped to Bimbo’s other county bakeries. Corporate spokespersons declined to comment on this week’s closure, but national media outlets reported in recent days that Bimbo Bakeries USA, based in Texas, had pulled the plug on a number of stores.

The nearest Bimbo Bakeries are located at 4020 East Main Street in Ventura and 610-A West Betteravia in Santa Maria.
