Because of the shark warnings posted on Santa Barbara beaches, this week’s ocean swims that are part of Nite Moves and Reef & Run have been cancelled. Both series will of races will include runs – the usual Nite Moves 5k on Wednesday, and a timed beach run for Reef & Run participants on Thursday.

Six consecutive days of baseball starting Tuesday, July 24, at UCSB’s Caesar Uyesaka Stadium will prepare the Santa Barbara Foresters for the defense of their National Baseball Congress championship.

The Foresters will face the Bakersfield Braves in a three-game non-league series, and then they will take on Team Vegas in three games that may determine whether they will at least share the California Collegiate League pennant for a 10th straight year. All games Tuesday through Saturday begin at 5:10 p.m., and the finale on Sunday goes off at 1 p.m.

In their road trip last week, the Foresters were swept by the San Luis Obispo Blues, who took a one-game lead in the CCL standings. Following that slump, Santa Barbara stayed in the title hunt by taking three games from the L.A. Brewers in Orange County. The Foresters are 17-10 in the league and 27-14 overall. The Blues, 18-9 in the CCL, could clinch the title by sweeping Team Vegas the next three nights.

The Foresters will play in the NBC World Series regardless of the league standings because they are defending champion. They are scheduled to play their first game in Wichita, Kansas, on Wednesday, August 1.

The Santa Barbara Polo Club is open to spectators on Sundays during the summer’s four high-goal tournaments. The Mansour team won the Mayor’s Cup, and this Sunday, July 29, the America Cup final will take place at 1 p.m. Three other teams are competing for the prize – Farmers and Merchants Bank, Grant’s Farm, and Lucchese.
