One day a local took her horse
Out for a walk (on the street, of course)
And was surprised to find that, in the foothills,
Drivers wound round corners giving her chills.
So she snapped a shot of her spot on the road
And went online to harp on safe driving code.
“It would be nice if people could slow down.
I was nearly hit today riding in the foothills near town.”

The comments showed mixed support from the start.
“I wish such common courtesies still lived within most hearts.”
“That wasn’t safe in the 70s! You’re living in a fantasy.”
“The speed limit would help no car avoid that travesty.”
“If you can’t go the speed limit, then get off the road!”
“Yeah, it’s a street, not your horse’s commode.”
“It may stink, but just like bikers and pedestrians
the law says cars must watch out for equestrians.”

Then the law was quoted for all to see,
But it didn’t make commenters any less snarky.
“If that’s true, I should take my cows for a walk.
They could graze at the Mission. Let the people gawk!”

The wacky, angry, and supportive words flowed free
Until someone said,”Way to beat a dead horse!” sheepishly.
Then all fell silent, though I believe the cowboys knew,
This meant the taming of the West still wasn’t through.
