“The goal of Boumi is to encourage Afghan-made products, as well as provide job opportunities for Afghan men and women,” said Hassina Sherjan, founder of Boumi, an Afghanistan-based home goods and décor company. Sherjan is currently touring the world with a trunk show titled Crafting Peace with Boumi, which introduces foreign markets to the handmade items for sale. Founded in Kabul in 2005, Boumi puts its employees through specialized training in order to create the high-quality crafts it manufactures and sells. Partial proceeds from the items purchased will go toward Sherjan’s other effort, Aid Afghanistan for Education, which promotes education for marginalized Afghans who do not have access to formal, government-funded schooling. The trunk show takes place Saturday, October 27, noon-5 p.m., at the S.B. Museum of Art Store (1130 State St.). For more info, call 966-6840 or visit sbma.net.
