“Jaws of Life” rescue demonstration, Riley The Rescue Dog, and complimentary reception for SB Firefighters Alliance
Please join us at 4:30pm, on Friday night, November 2nd, 2012 at the Santa Barbara Tennis Club (2375 Foothill Rd.) for a complimentary beverage and appetizers reception hosted by the Santa Barbara Firefighters Alliance.
– Experience firsthand a breathtaking “Jaws of Life” rescue demonstration by city and county firefighters.
– Bring your children to meet Riley, the Rescue Dog, and to discover the Fire Safety House to learn about fire prevention.
– Meet representatives of our Fire Departments and see firsthand some of the equipment they use to protect our community.
Each year the men and women of the Santa Barbara City and County fire departments respond to over 20,000 calls for service. These calls range from medical emergencies, car accidents, hazardous materials spills, search and rescue, to large scale wildfires and structure fires.
As a community, we have seen the dramatic impact that large scale wildfires including Painted Cave, Zaca, Gap, Tea and Jesusita fires.
The Tea Fire that began on November 13, 2008 burned 1,940 acres and destroyed 210 homes. Thirteen people were injured and many lives were irreparably damaged.
The Jesusita Fire of May 2009 burned 8,733 acres, destroyed 160 structures, damaged 18 damaged and caused significant damage to the Botanical Gardens. There were thirty injuries and a massive loss of wildlife.
The Santa Barbara Firefighters Alliance is a California non-profit and tax exempt volunteer organization working hand-in-hand with the city and county firefighters to identify and fund critical equipment and program support.
