Santa Barbara High will seek its sixth CIF boys water polo championship on Saturday, November 17, when the Dons (22-8) face top-seeded Agoura (25-4) at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine. The Division 2 final is set for 2:45 p.m.

Coach Mark Walsh’s Dons held off Laguna Beach, 9-7, in the semifinals Wednesday. Previously, they swamped Great Oak, 18-7, and Royal, 12-6.

Between 1997 and 2006, the Dons won five CIF titles in 10 years. It has been six years since their last appearance in the final.

In other CIF playoff action, Bishop Diego will take an 11-game winning streak into the Northwestern Division football quarterfinals. The top-ranked Cardinals will face Village Christian at 7 p.m. Friday at Occidental College.

In town this weekend, SBCC is staging its fifth annual MTXE Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Vaqueros open up against San Diego Mesa tonight (Thurs., Nov. 15). The tournament field includes San Bernardino Valley, the two-time defending champion; Cerritos, Grossmont , Santa Ana, Riverside City and Solano. The title of the tournament stands for “Mental Toughness, Extra Effort.”

UCSB’s men, 0-2 after a pair of tough road games against LSU and Illinois State, will face The Master’s College in their home basketball opener Saturday night at the Thunderdome. For the Gaucho water polo team, it’s the home finale against Long Beach State at noon.
