As determined by the Fish and Game Code of the State of California, all fines monies derived from code violations shall be equally divided between the Department of Fish and Game and the county in which the violation occurred. In 1975 the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors established the Santa Barbara County Fish and Game Commission (SBCFGC) and charged that body with recommending to the Board how those funds should be distributed. State law requires that grants of such monies must be utilized for the protection, conservation, propagation, preservation, or education as they pertain to fish and wildlife.

Interested non-profit organizations, clubs, or other such groups should contact Sharon Foster at Santa Barbara Planning and Development, 805-568-2026 to request grant application materials. These grants are awarded annually and current grantees must renew their applications. While grants are limited to $2,000, such an amount is seldom granted.

Grant requests must be submitted no later than Wednesday, December 5, 2012 in order to be reviewed and prioritized at the January, 2013 meeting of the SBCFGC. Recommendations will then be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final approval.
