Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s winter-season rehearsal for Mats Ek’s Casi Casa at the Harris Theater.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago at the Granada Theatre: In 2011, UCSB’s Arts & Lectures brought Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (HSDC) to town for one of the highlights of the performing arts season: a stunning program of works by Jiří Kylián and Johan Inger. This January, they return with a mixed bill featuring two short works by HSDC resident artist and company member Alejandro Cerrudo: “Blanco” (a women’s quartet) and “PACOPEPEPLUTO,” a more humorous work comprised of three male solos. Also on the program is the emotionally riveting group work “Casi-Casa” by cutting-edge Swedish choreographer Mats Ek, and “Untouched,” created for HSDC by a Santa Barbara favorite: the mega-talented Aszure Barton. Hubbard Street Dance is among the jewels of the Windy City, but its influence is international. The 18-member company is among the most accomplished modern dance groups in the world, and under the direction of Glenn Edgerton, it seems to get better and better. The Santa Barbara calendar boasts many not-to-be-missed dance events this season; Hubbard Street should be near the top of your list. On stage Wednesday, January 23 at 8 p.m. Call (805) 893-3535 or visit artsandlectures.sa.ucsb.edu.
