Lompoc resident Nicolasa Sandoval, 42, was tabbed by Governor Jerry Brown to serve on the State Board of Education. Sandoval currently works as education director for the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. She earned a doctorate in Education from UCSB where she now lectures. She also worked for several years at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. The appointment of Sandoval, who is registered as a decline-to-state, requires Senate confirmation.
