“On the Road to Nationals” Dons Dollar Drive

This year’s competition team has a very good chance to capture this dream. They have won two USA Regionals tournament by taking first place in both Varsity Show Cheer (novice) and Varsity Group Stunt Cheer (intermediate)…TWICE…on January 12 in San Juan Capistrano and January 19 in Agoura Hills. Now, they are “On the Road to Nationals” and they will need the community’s help to get there.

The Dons Competition Cheer Team, comprised of 32 teens and 4 coaches, needs to raise just over $9,000 to go to USA Nationals held March 15, 16, and 17 in Anaheim, California. The cost includes registration fees, travel, lodging and food. The Dons Cheer team has been fundraising since the BEFORE the school year began in order to support their entire school cheer program and not just the dream of Nationals. The kids and their families (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) have washed nearly 1,000 cars, held several rummage sales, sold a few hundred pounds of cookie dough, hosted a BBQ Drive Thru, made nearly 1,500 tamales, and now they are running their second “On the Road to Nationals” Dollar Drive.

MEDIA NOTE: There are cheerleaders and parents at both store locations that are available for an interview, photo op and video op.

WHERE: The team has divided into two fundraising teams. One team is at Smart & Final located at 217 E. Gutierrez Street in Santa Barbara and the other team is at Gelson’s Market located at 3305 State Street in Santa Barbara.

WHEN: Today (January 20) from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

WHY: To raise about $9,000 for the Dons Competition Cheer Team to go to Nationals and defend their winning title
