Proposed changes to parking permits in the Santa Barbara Harbor have some live-aboard residents and boat-related businesspeople fearful for an overly onerous future, as they say that the 72-hour limits being discussed would make it more difficult to work in an already complicated area and cause problems for folks who wanted to go on extended sailing trips. Other people who work and recreate in the harbor, however, say that abuse of the annual permits leads to jam-packed lots throughout the year, thereby cutting down on their profits and access. The next meeting on this issue is on March 12 at 4:30 p.m. in the harbor’s classroom, upstairs from the mail center.
