“This class is designed to give women some very basic but effective skills when threatened,” said Master Melodee Meyer, co-founder and owner of Martial Arts Family Fitness. “Good self defense skills begin with an awareness of your environment, but can easily escalate to the physical. Seminar participants will be taught how to avoid being grabbed, how to escape from threatening situations, and how to take control when needed.”

“Students attending the seminar will be learning from a true master in the art of Hapkido,” added Grandmaster Dave Wheaton, co-owner of Martial Arts Family Fitness. “Master Melodee has studied martial arts for over 15 years. Her years of experience, coupled with her involvement in the martial arts, will bring some great insight to participants.”

Master Meyer, recipient of Action Magazine’s 2013 Outstanding Contribution to the Martial Arts Award, will lead the seminar, and will be assisted by some of the school’s black belts. “During the seminar we will discuss and examine potential scenarios where a woman may be attacked,” added Mr. Wheaton. “The seminar will have a real hands-on approach. Students will learn practical techniques that are effective and easy to execute. The seminar will take place in a safe and supportive environment, and students will learn how to stay safe and avoid being a victim. This seminar is open to all women ages 13 and up, and no experience is necessary.”

The cost to attend the seminar is $30, and all proceeds benefit the Rape Crisis Center. Participants registering online can bring a friend at no additional cost. For more information or to register please call 805.963.6233 or go to www.kickboxers.com.
