Sponsored by the Department of Communication Alumni Council, Career Day brings alumni back to campus to speak about their professions, career paths, the job market, and opportunities for applying their degrees. In the four years that the Department has hosted the event, over 1200 students (about 300 per year) have attended the event and over 120 alumni (about 30 per year) have returned to campus to participate on the panels.

Alumni participate on panels organized by career specializations, such as public relations, marketing, financial management, digital technology or by types of industries—law, entertainment, high tech, or non-profit organizations. The event is driven by the philosophy that people develop their careers through their knowledge of the marketplace and their determination to succeed. The event also addresses vital needs in a tough job market and helps students locate internships, build their portfolios, and make connections with alumni who share their professional interests.

The registration for Career Day will be held from 12:30-1:00 in the Corwin Pavilion Courtyard. Alumni panels will occur from 1:00-2:00 and again from 2:30-3:30. There will be a 30-minute intermission with snacks and refreshments between panels, to give student an opportunity to network with the alumni. Several organizations in the community are interested in connecting with the students, as both panelists and donors to the event. Organizations that have agreed to underwrite the event include Mission Wealth Management, and Loyola Law School, who will be Gold-level donors. Sarah Keiski, Assistant Director of Admissions at Loyola Law School, also says: “UCSB is among our top three feeder schools to Loyola Law School and we absolutely love the students there!” There are numerous ways to help underwrite the event for 2013.

Benefits to Organizations that help underwrite the event:

• Your organization will have maximum exposure to all students and alumni panelists before and during the even–including kicking off the event and welcoming alumni and students.

• Your organization’s name and logo will appear on all event publicity, including in-class promotions, campus flyers, web promotions, and social media.

• Your organization’s name and logo will appear as the official donor to the event program.

• Your organization could sponsor a table at the registration site for the event.

• Organizational representatives could speak to the audience and/or host a special industry panel, if several communication alumni work for your organization.

• The event offers a company a number of opportunities to meet outstanding students and recruit them for high quality internships and potential employees.
