Jerry Thede

Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians has always placed a significant value on building a stronger community – whether it’s their own tribal community or the community at large. They have also understood the importance of developing strong and lasting relationships. It is this type of enduring community partnership that they strive to develop and nurture through their Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation.

Their philanthropic approach relies on building strong partnerships and working hand-in-hand with community members and non-profit organizations to enhance our community. As a result of this collaborative nature, they have committed more than $16 million over the years to enhance the lives of residents throughout Santa Barbara County and beyond.

“We are proud to partner with an organization that has devoted the past 75 years to developing and enriching the lives of young people in Santa Barbara. We understand how important it is for children to have a safe and positive environment they can turn to, and that’s the role that the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara serves for many in this community.”

–Vincent Armenta, Tribal Chairman for the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians

Gerald Thede

Gerald Thede (Jerry) started his long association with the Boys & Girls Club when he went to work for Price, Postel & Parma Law Firm right out of law school in 1952. His boss, A.C. Postel volunteered Jerry’s time to help the Club with various legal matters. Jerry helped to redraft the By-Laws for the Club.

Jerry became a Board Member in 1994 and served on the board for 20 years! Jerry served as Board Secretary, Board President, Finance Committee Chair and served on several board committees throughout his 20 year tenure.

Jerry co-chaired the Club’s major Capital Campaign with Mason Farrell around 1996. Under his and Mason’s leadership, the Club raised $1.5 million to renovate Santa Barbara county Boys & Girls Clubs. Both Jerry & Mason received the Club’s “Volunteer of the Year Award” for all their hard work. This campaign allowed the Club to add much needed rooms and space which resulted in the addition of many new programs and activities for the kids at the Club!

Jerry started the Charitable Trust Fund Campaign, which he personally kicked-off with his own donation. Jerry also helped institute a restricted Endowment Fund for the Club to help ensure its future stability. Jerry has also made many personal donations to the Club throughout the years.
