Santa Barbara Crime Blotter, 3/25 – 4/1

3/28; 1:12 p.m.; 531 N. Voluntario St.: A driver and passenger fled from their vehicle after they were pulled over by police. According to the report, the driver ran through several backyards and was eventually chased down on foot. The report did not say what happened to the passenger. Upon search of the suspect and the vehicle, police found nearly a pound of marijuana and 30 dextroamphetamine pills. During questioning, the suspect spontaneously stated: “I’m a musician, and I sell weed on the side.”

3/28; 2:21 p.m.; 1 W. Calle Real: Police made a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle. The driver had a suspended license, and the car was reported stolen. The driver had used a shaved key to start the vehicle, and the car contained the belongings and debit card of a woman who lives in Inglewood, Calif. The owner of the car was notified, and the driver was arrested.

3/28; 3 p.m.; 1010 W. Valerio St.: A man well-known in the competitive martial arts world was arrested for allegedly choking his girlfriend until she lost consciousness. [CORRECTION: The initial version of this post stated the suspect was employed by Santa Barbara’s Paragon Jiu Jitsu & Kickboxing gym. The suspect has in fact never worked at Paragon. We apologize for the confusion.]

3/28; 10:24 p.m.; 2418 Calle Real: A man entered his home, woke up his sleeping girlfriend, and reportedly punched her in the face “in excess of 20 times.” He also hit her head on a coffee table several times. According to the report, the man assaulted his girlfriend because he suspected that she was cheating.

3/30; 1:45 p.m.; 620 W. Mission St.: A man was arrested for trespassing in a woman’s garage. According to the report, the two had met in February. When the man’s romantic advances were rejected by the woman, he began to send threatening text messages including that he was going to cut the woman into pieces. The woman also reported that the man had entered her bedroom on 3/26.

3/31; 6:35 p.m.; 1000 De la Vina St.: Police witnessed a man “challenging” pedestrians in front of Ralphs. When he was contacted by police, he resisted, tried to spit on an officer three times, and said to police that he would “bomb you and use AK-47s if I can.” The suspect also allegedly attempted to kick a nurse while he was being treated at Cottage Hospital.
