Hoping there will be extra revenue leftover in the Sheriff’s Department’s budget to help offset costs, the Board of Supervisors okayed $100,000 to fix one of the county Air Support Unit’s helicopters beset with engine problems. Patching up the fleet has already been an issue this year, with maintenance on one of the county’s six helicopters taking up the department’s entire annual maintenance budget. Sheriff’s officials said a full fleet is important to being able to carry out the unit’s mission, especially with high fire season upon us.
