For 20 years, this unique arts enrichment program has offered promising teenage artists the opportunity to work closely with local professional master artists in a studio environment. Working in small groups of no more than 10, students receive specialized training, produce portfolio-quality work, gain insight into future careers in creative fields, and participate in a group exhibition in a professional gallery.

The Mentorship Group Exhibition represents the culmination of students’ work in this program by introducing them to the steps involved in preparing and displaying art in a public venue. The classes that were offered this year are: Bronze Casting, taught by Nevin Littlehale; Painting, taught by Michael Irwin; Creative Writing taught by Elizabeth Schwyzer; and Digitial Photography taught by Phillip Van Nostrand. Sessions were held in private studios, and art classrooms on the campus of Santa Barbara City College. For ten week period, students were immersed in instruction, evaluation, and the creative process.

The Spring 2013 Teen Arts Mentorship Exhibition will feature students from Dos Pueblos, San Marcos, Santa Barbara, San Roque, Bishop High, and Carpinteria High Schools. Participants are as follows: Nevin Littlehale/ Bronze Casting-Tajo McBurnie, Lindsey DePledge, Mirra Tubiolo, Rowan Diloia, Gabe Hendlin, and Julian Legros; Michael Irwin/Painting- Grace Budgett, Forrest Van Stein, Louisa Edwards, Hannah Croshaw, Saavan Sagar, Sofia Vermuelen, Kela Johnson, Benjamin Weininger, Lindsey Jessie, and Sam Brenner; Phillip Van Nostrand/Photography- Antara Bird, Jessany Rodenas, Sydney Barton, Joshua Van Orsdel, Jaime Schuyler, Terra Cobain, and Claire Murdoch; Elizabeth Schwyzer/ Creative Writing- Mark Godges, Lisa Giordani, Brianna, and Andrea.
