<b>UP ON THE ROOF:</b> That’s where Tevye (Erik Stein) wants to be in PCPA’s current production of <i>Fiddler on the Roof</i>.

Outside and under the stars rather than inside and under a roof, the Solvang Festival Theater offers one of the most distinctive summertime experiences in the area. And from July 13 to August 10 — smack in the middle of PCPA’s 2013 Solvang season — the epic Monty Python musical Spamalot takes over for what promises to be a wild midsummer run. The show feels like a perfect match for the location: There’s something about the Python’s outlandish mock–Middle Ages that just says “take me to your Danish fantasy village.” And, unless you are under 12, don’t let the fact that Spamalot is recommended for ages 12 and up hold you back. This tuneful, irreverent musical comedy would make a great group outing after visiting one of the local tasting rooms. Saturday, July 13 through Saturday, August 10. Call or visit pcpa.org.

<b>BUT SERIOUSLY:</b> The cast of <i>The Importance of Being Earnest</i> are munching on cucumber
