Mark comes to SYVCS with 10 years of experience in public education, where he most recently served as the Assistant Director at Family Partnership Charter School. Mark grew up in Santa Maria and graduated from University of California at Davis with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Science and a minor in Education. He went on to obtain a Masters of Arts in Education at U.C. Davis, and is currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership at California Lutheran University.

SYVCS Board President, Kelly Scott stated, “Mark’s experience in charter school administration, coupled with his passion for excellence in education will greatly benefit the SYVCS community. SYVCS has grown from 88 students in its inception to over 200 students in the past 13 years and Mark is the perfect person to lead SYVCS towards an even brighter future.” Mark added, “I am personally honored and excited to be joining the SYVCS school community, a community that truly embraces collaboration between staff, parents and the community, in support of students through innovative and challenging academic programs.”

Santa Ynez Valley Charter School is a tuition-free, K-8 public school of choice that opened in September of 2000. SYVCS achieved a 2012 Academic Performance Index score of 881, making it one of the top 10 performing schools in Santa Barbara County. The mission of SYVCS is to work collaboratively to create a supporting, innovative, and academically challenging educational environment that nurtures its students and prepares them for high school and beyond.
