The Alano Club ushered in its 50th anniversary with a benefit concert on 10/4 and recognition from the Board of Supervisors on 10/8. Every month, the Santa Barbara nonprofit provides services to more than 4,000 people recovering from drug and alcohol addictions. It is directed by a board — many members are former addicts — and funded through donations, dues, and fundraising events like last Friday’s Michael McDonald concert. The event, board president Jill McCray-Hyers said, raised more than $25,000 for mortgage payments and its annual Thanksgiving dinner for 300 low-income residents.
