This exciting display highlights Family History Month together with emphasis on the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War (1861-1865). Featuring patriotic posters, books, photos and pictures, records and memorabilia to dramatize the role our ancestors played in the battle for freedom. The display also announces the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society Open House in October and introduces local lineage societies. Information is provided about how to use resources at the Sahyun Library in Santa Barbara to find ancestors who served in the Union Army or the Army of the Confederacy, and how to locate documents that are available online or at the National Archives relating to their ancestors’ service and/or pension. This eye-catching, educational display will engage all ages and ethnicities.

This display can be seen in the lobby of the SB Public Library at Anapamu and Anacapa streets and was planned and executed by Cathy Jordan and Debbie Kaska who are active members of the SB County Genealogical Society (http://sbgen.org/).
