Environmental education and arts center Art From Scrap is celebrating the fall season with two art exhibitions and a new art workshop schedule.

On Friday, October 25th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Dia de los Dulces opens with a festive reception at the Art From Scrap Gallery. This Day of the Dead show features the work of three notable Santa Barbara artists; Colleen Darling, Mary Stanley and Syd McCutcheon. Dia de los Dulces will live up to its name- think psychedelic sugar skulls and art that offers a sweeter, less conventional interpretation of the Day of the Dead tradition.

Mary Price, curator of the Art From Scrap Gallery says that Dia de los Dulces promises to be a “rollicking good time with fusion refrescos and the lively music of Ocho Emmanuel Villegas. Don’t miss it!”

Warning: Flash mobbing zombies might attend this opening.

On November 7 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Coffee Cat, 1201 Anacapa Street, Art From Scrap is hosting a reception for artist Allen Schiller as part of the November First Thursday celebration. Allen Schiller has participated in countless group exhibits as well as several solo exhibits, taught art at UCSB and SBCC and works in acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, and assemblage. A long-time participant in the Solstice Parade, Allan has worked on the finale ensemble with Pali X-Mano many times. Since Allan is the artist-in-residence at Art From Scrap many visitors to the re-use store at 302 E. Cota Street are probably already familiar with his work. “Art is of vital importance,” said Schiller, “because you can recreate experiences, express feelings and even change your outlook”. The Coffee Cat has been an Art From Scrap Gallery Annex since April 2012, featuring such local luminaries as Neal Crosbie, Esteban, Ron Robertson, Noah Erenberg, Melissa Mahoney, Massoud Abolhoda and Peter Price.

For those who want to make their own art, Art From Scrap has a new workshop schedule. Here is a sampling of this season’s workshops: November 9- Mask Making with Sukey Hughes, November 16-Mechanical Creatures with Beth Amine, November 23- King and Queen with Brad Nack and on December 21- Artifacts From Outer Space with Jason Summers.
