Santa Barbara City College students voted last week to increase their transportation fees $5.50 per semester to $30 total. Set to begin next July, the summer session fees will also increase $2.50 to about $13. The higher fees will translate to a more than $150,000 annual boost for MTD. Currently, MTD receives about $800,000 from SBCC based on enrollment and gives students just over a million rides each year. The current fee translates to less than 80 cents a ride, which is about half of the adult cash fare. “We appreciate the student support,” said Jerry Estrada, MTD’s Assistant General Manager.
