Classes are cancelled at UCSB on Tuesday, which the university has declared a “Day of Mourning and Reflection,” according to a letter sent out by Chancellor Henry Yang on Sunday. A memorial service — organized by students, staff, and faculty — for the six students who lost their lives in Friday’s rampage is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Harder Stadium, and a memorial wall at the Pardall center is planned.

Although classes are cancelled tomorrow (they will resume on Wednesday), professors will be on campus — in office hours, in their regular classrooms, or both — to meet with students if they want to talk. Counselors will also be at the Student Resource Building all day on Tuesday.

Academic advisors are also aware of the effect the tragedy could have on students’ ability to handle their course loads in the last three weeks of the school year. “Our dedicated advisors will do everything they can to ensure that no student’s academic record is adversely affected by this difficult situation,” Yang wrote. Advising hours will be extended on Tuesday, with walk-in appointments available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, including during the lunch hour.

”This is a period of mourning for all of us,” Yang wrote. “The moving candlelight vigil that our students organized on Saturday evening began the process of healing. On Tuesday we will remember and honor the victims of this horrible event, and come together as an academic community to reflect, talk with each other, and think about the future. As terrible as these past two days have been, they make us believe in our students and the entire UCSB community more than ever.”

Counseling services are also available 24 hours a day at 805-893-4411. Parents and community members with questions can call 805-893-3901.
