In Santa Barbara County, oil taxes contribute over $16 million yearly in tax revenue. If Measure P passes, the county loses over $300 million in taxes in the “bouncing ball” effect. Schools, fire departments, Sheriff’s department, and police departments will suffer due to lack of funding.

The passage of Measure P will cause unemployment to increase due to layoffs. Businesses will close.

In contrast, oil wells are in unincorporated hilly areas, not in city limits, therefore property values are not affected.

Fracking was the big petition “push word” for the Water Guardians, not “ALL enhanced methods.” But fracking is the Big “F” Word. Fracking is not being done in Santa Barbara County. If it were, it would be highly regulated.

Oil has been explored for 114 years in the North County, and S.B. County has yet to drop into the ocean. Most oil companies monitor their oil fields 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using highly technical devices.

NASA’s air quality report last week shows that the nation’s air quality has greatly improved. That’s also true for Santa Barbara County.

Environmentalists should encourage alternative energy if they hate oil, not discourage it. They also use oil-based products every day.

If Measure P passes in Santa Barbara Coounty, the movement will continue to other counties. How goes Santa Barbara County, goes California. How goes California, goes the nation.

Scared? You should be if these special-interest groups succeed. Vote NO on Measure P in November.
