The second half of August through Labor Day saw 148 people arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the Sheriff’s Office, which was one of the 12 law enforcement agencies across the county that ramped up DUI monitoring during that time. The figures improved from the same stretch last year, when 185 arrests and three deaths were tied to DUIs. Similar enforcement measures will repeat around Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the winter holidays.
