We were born and grew up in Santa Maria, and our family and friends have been keeping us abreast of current events, much about Measure P these days. If passed, Measure P will be very damaging to Santa Barbara County, workers, families, and taxpayers. It threatens thousands of well-paying jobs, and the economy could lose almost $300 million a year in economic activity. Annual funding for our schools, fire protection, and other vital government services will be lost. This is costly to the people of the county, and property taxes will increase.
The promoters attack fracking, but no wells in Santa Barbara County are being fracked. They claim it only applies to future production, but it applies to nearly all existing oil and gas production in the county. The people of Santa Barbara County need to vote “no” on Measure P.
This measure is drastic, flawed, and costly.
