Measure P supporters claim the oil produced in Santa Barbara County is unsafe for our water, land, and air, and therefore limiting its production will save us from drinking contaminated water, eating unhealthy food, and breathing polluted air. However, they fail to point out that S.B. is renowned for having one of the most stringent oil and gas regulations in the world. Starting with drilling, all the way through filling your car with gas, every step of the process requires an extensive permit to stay in compliance with the county’s strict regulations.

Where else in the world can you find stringent regulations as such? Thank you Santa Barbara County for compromising between locally producing this economically beneficial safe oil while at the same time keeping Santa Barbara green and beautiful; this coexistence has occurred for the past 50 years, and I feel it can go on forever. Why stop the production of this safe local oil and rely on oil imported from unstable parts of the world with very lax environmental regulations? Please join me in voting no on P.
