Kristin Knapp Cole joined some very select company at Santa Barbara High last Friday night. Her basketball jersey (#44) was hung on the wall at J.R. Richards Gym, joining those of four other Dons basketball greats — Victor Bartolome, Jamaal Wilkes, Don Ford, and Holly Ford. Cole, the daughter of former boys’ coach Larry Knapp and Linda Lindberg, was a prep All-American while playing for the Dons during the years 1987-90 when they were nationally ranked. She is the school’s second all-time leading scorer and leading rebounder. The 6’3” power forward went on to play at Notre Dame, making three appearances in the NCAA tournament. She has been an assistant coach at a number of colleges, beginning with Auburn University in 1996. Currently, she is at the University of Texas, Arlington. Addressing the crowd at Santa Barbara’s Tournament of Champions with her son, Kael, at her side, Cole expressed her faith in God and her desire to excel.
