Architects Brian Cearnal and Don Sharpe were given awards for their contributions to the area architectural scene in a ceremony carried out in front of the City Council this week. Sharpe was singled out for having contributed 29 years of volunteer service on various design review committees. Cearnal has left his fingerprints all over Santa Barbara, having designed the new Public Market, Saks, and the Canary Hotel. Landscape architect Katie O’Reilly-Rogers was honored for her work at the refurbished El Encanto, and PSMP architects got serious love for their remodel of the New Vic Theatre. Commenting afterwards, Mayor Helene Schneider said, “As crazy as the process is, we know why we do what we do.”
