Limo driver, shoe salesman, and onetime Republican activist Rod Sumner died of a heart attack this week at the age of 65. Sumner ​— ​a sweet-spirited gadfly who delighted in the media sobriquet “free-floating electron” ​— ​was most engaged in Goleta politics prior to its incorporation. He later became a champion of RV living.
