Post offices in the city remain on their scheduled hours on April 15, tax return day, with downtown’s Anacapa Street main post office open until 6 p.m. today, and most others until 5 p.m. Out in Montecito, the Read ‘n Post will be postmarking state and federal tax returns as late as 9 p.m. “We have received permission from the U.S. Postal Service to extend our hours until 9 p.m. on tax deadline day,” said Read ‘n Post owner-manager Jan Hendrickson. “As far as we know, we are the only postal facility anywhere on the Central Coast that will offer this service.” Read ‘n Post can be found at 1026-B Coast Village Road.

The Postal Service offers some advice for worried filers, whose tax returns must be postmarked April 15 to be timely: Make sure your envelopes have enough postage on them; tax returns with insufficient postage will be returned. Write the destination and return addresses clearly. Check the collection time at the post box you use to make sure you’re sending before the deadline.
