I followed the Duanying Chen case from the beginning, and a few things puzzle me. Why didn’t DA Kevin Weichbrod just say “no deals” and prosecute the case on its merits? That way, once he got the conviction on both animal cruelty and domestic violence, he’d have had more leverage at a sentence.

It seems that not only did “Davey” have a fatal dog sitter, prosecutor Weichbrod used poor judgment in the case.
