Alfa Romeo and Maserati Dealership Meets Design Review Opposition

Last week, Santa Barbara’s Architectural Board of Review called for further assessment of Alfa Romeo and Maserati’s proposal to build a 39,000-square-foot, two-story dealership at 350 Hitchcock Way, which will replace an unused service bay on the property.

The new show space, which would sit between a one-story Lexus dealership and a townhome complex, is designed to include three display rooms, business areas, indoor service rooms, interior car storage, as well as 168 parking spots.

Initially, developers planned to remove the palm trees on the lot, but at the next review meeting in mid to late August, city officials said they would work with the architect to preserve natural vegetation and ensure the building’s appearance fits Santa Barbara’s style.

At last week’s meeting, three neighbors spoke against the building — and two wrote letters — citing noise and privacy grievances, as well as concerns about the proposed bicycle path installation. Currently, the closest Alfa Romeo and Maserati dealership is in Los Angeles.
