Léna Garcia
Paul Wellman

We’re glad Léna Garcia, whose mother found her name on a gravestone in Paris, didn’t shred her passport in the Netherlands this summer because we needed her to come back to run the newsroom, which she did without flinching after only three weeks on the job. Freshly graduated from UCSB with a professional editing minor and literature major, our assistant news editor started writing creative nonfiction crayon memoirs in preschool in her hometown of Santa Cruz. Now, she says, she finally feels like a reporter on House of Cards.
