Santa Barbara Police Department officials took a male suspect into custody after reports of gunshots heard near Skofield Park Tuesday afternoon.

[Update, 3:10 p.m.] In a police radio report, the suspect was described as “hard of hearing,” and it was reported that ammunition was discovered in the aforementioned white car. Authorities said Adult Protective Services (APS) have been notified. Police are in the process of re-opening roads. The suspect’s name hasn’t been released, and authorities are still investigating the incident.

[Update, 3:02 p.m.] The suspect has been taken into custody, according to an update from Santa Barbara Police Department Sergeant Riley Harwood.

At approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday, the Santa Barbara Police Department received multiple reports of nearby gunshots from residents in the 1700 and 1800 block of Las Canoas Road in Santa Barbara near Skofield Park.

Police are now searching for the shooter, described as a man with a rifle believed to be associated with a white vehicle, and advise residents to stay in doors. An emergency response helicopter has been deployed and the police department’s BearCat armored vehicle is en route.

Roads have been closed between 2200 Las Canoas Road and the intersection of Las Canoas Road and El Cielito Road.
