The Sheriff’s Office quarterly roundup video, featuring community-geared information on Sheriff’s Department programs and recent crime-fighting initiatives, was released Thursday, January 6, to the public.

The half-an-hour-long video, hosted by Sheriff Bill Brown, begins with a ride along with deputies Troy Carpenter and Paul Weirum through rural New Cuyama, where a Sheriff’s Office substation is located. Briefly synopsized in the video are three major crime incidents from the past few months: the Los Olivos and Santa Ynez Valley murder-suicides, as well as the police standoff with a Carpinteria man who — after stealing a coworker’s truck — barricaded himself inside his heavily armed trailer and took his own life.

Citing the San Bernardino shooting, a public safety video composed of strategies to escape an active shooter — “Run, Hide, Fight” — are also included in the roundup. The simulated video was created by Ready Houston, an emergency preparedness effort of the Texas government.

Among the Sheriff’s Office initiatives mentioned in the roundup are the Sheriff’s Treatment Program, recidivism education, and Isla Vista Halloween.
